ARABTERM is now available in mobile version

ARABTERM launched in June 2014 a mobile portal, accessible from most phones and tabs, allowing its users a quick access to the completed volumes. The launching of this mobile version coincides with the uploading of two new volumes on Renewable Energies (5500 terms) and on Electrical Engineering (3000 terms). These volumes follow the existing ones on Water Technology (7700 terms) and on Automotive Engineering (4700 terms), validated at the twelfth Arabization Congress held in Khartoum (Sudan) in November 2013.


Workshop on “Automatic Processing of the Arabic Language” held at BCA

On Tuesday March 20th, 2014, a workshop was held at BCA on “Automatic Processing of the Arabic Language”. The theme was presented by Pr. Dr. Karim Bouzoubaa and M. Youness Jaafar from Mohammedia School of Engineers (EMI) in Rabat, who delivered a presentation to introduce Sibawayh Repository for Arabic Language Processing and other programs specialized in morphological and grammatical analysis as well as automatic text processing.

BCA at the International Publishing and Book Fair Casablanca

ALECSO’s Arabization Coordination Bureau (BCA) participated in the International Publishing and Book Fair in Casablanca from 13 to 23 February 2014, with a stand to display its latest publications as well as those of the technical terminological dictionary project, ARABTERM.

ARABTERM at PIREN, the Pan-Islamic Research and Education Network Country Coordinators Meeting

The ARABTERM project was presented at the second meeting of the country coordinators for the Pan-Islamic Research and Education Network (PIREN). The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) organized the meeting, which took place in Amman, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, from the 26th till the 28th of March, 2013. The meeting also presented an opportunity for ARABTERM to come into contact with relevant institutions.
Experts from Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, Palestine, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain attended the meeting and shared their experiences in research and education networks. In addition, they assessed the infrastructure and explored the possibility of linking more networks to PIREN, which aims to strengthen ties between universities and research centres in Islamic countries.

 

ARABTERM meets AIDMO, the Organisation of Industry Development and Mining Exploitation

On Friday the 11th of March, 2013 a delegation of BCA and Arabterm representatives formally visited Prof Dr Mohamed bin Youssef, Director General of the Arabic Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO). Prof Abdelfettah Lahjomri, Head of the Bureau of Coordination of Arabization (BCA), presented the activities of the BCA and Mr Guido Zebisch, Arabterm project coordinator, presented the Arab-German project. 
In turn, AIDMO’s director general presented his organization’s specialized projects and affirmed the importance of the relationship between AIDMO and the BCA in economic and social development in Arab countries, in the development of the private sector, and in enhancing the role of small and medium industries. He spoke as well of coordinating efforts for the unification of descriptions, measurements and quality systems. Moreover, he confirmed the preparation of terminology volumes for the mining industry and the arabization of specialized terms for nanotechnology and green economy. In addition, the organization proposed a number of international experts who could offer their assistance. 
The meeting was also attended by AIDMO representatives Dr Mohamed Haouari, Director of the Industrial Development Department, and Dr Ayad Jalloul, Supervisor of the Private Sector Department, in addition to Mrs Maria Chouiyakh from the BCA.
During the meeting, the participants arranged to prepare an agreement between the two institutions, which would cover opportunities for cooperation, including training courses, exchange of experts, and so forth.

 

Arabterm at Arabic Language Day 2013

Arabterm was present at the celebrations of the Moroccan National Commission for Education, Culture and Science for Arabic Language Day. Mr Guido Zebisch’s presentation about the technical quadrilingual dictionary for the Arab world was well-received by the attendees at the event.

Arabization Coordination Bureau (BCA), GIZ and the German Jordanian University (GJU) sign Memorandum of Understanding

A memorandum has been signed between the parties involved in development of ARABTERM, namely: the Arabization Coordination Bureau (BCA), The German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), and the German Jordanian University (GJU). The agreement included the distribution of tasks among those participating in this project.

 

ALECSO and GIZ sign Implemention Agreement

On Tuesday, 6th March, 2012, an implementation agreement for the realisation of an interactive online quadrilingual technical dictionary was signed. The event took place at the headquarters of the Arab League Education Culture Science Organisation (ALECSO), where the Director General, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al- Aziz Ibn Ashour, represented the organisation and Mr. Rainer Krischel and Mr. Guido Zebisch were the GIZ delegates.


Water Technology Volume online

The water technology volume was recently published on the ARABTERM web page.
Along with the previous volume for automotive engineering, users can now access the dictionary directly and benefit from the scientific and technical content that it provides in four languages; Arabic, English, French, and German.
This second volume of the ARABTERM project covers a field of immense importance to the Arab world and aims to meet the increasing demand for specialized Arabic terminology in the water sector.
